What is it?
The CUNY Academic Commons is a WordPress platform open to all members of the CUNY community.
Why use it?
It offers opportunities to present materials in different and more open ways…
It serves as a container/host for using many other digital tools
It can be a good way to get students to engage with public scholarship by writing and creating media for each other.
Learning curve/drawbacks?
To put a very simple website for your course or a portfolio does not take a lot of time or specific skill. However, the possibilities of working with WordPress are endless and it can feel overwhelming.
Before you start
- make sure that you have access to a cuny.edu email address.

I am not sure what we have to do for the three sites- Academic Commons, Omeka and Hypothesis. I read the tutorials for each one and set up an academic commons account/profile. What else is required? Thank you
Hi Jacqueline–if you have made your Omeka site (to jump to those instructions: https://osdtt.commons.gc.cuny.edu/omeka-2/next-steps-with-omeka), your WordPress site and post, and joined the Hypothesis group account and left comments on the test site, then you’re done! Completion of the directions of each of those modules is what’s due.
