Getting Started

Omeka (in both its self- and web-hosted versions) “is a web publishing platform for sharing digital collections and creating media-rich online exhibits.” For the purposes of this workshop, we will only be talking about the web-hosted version, Omeka.net. This is the version that requires no meaningful prior knowledge of coding, web hosting, or database management.

In order to create a site using Omeka, you’ll need to create a username and password. For the purposes of this seminar, you’ll make use of the free option (the paid options enable multiple sites, more data storage, and a wider range of design options).

To locate the free option, click on “Learn which plan is right for you” and choose “Trial plan.” Create a username and password, and respond to the verification email that comes to your account. Now you can log in.
